La cantautora Littleuniverses, con sede en Montreal, estrenó la canción de amor de folk oscuro “Magic” el 19 de enero. Está fuera del álbum homónimo que saldrá el 10 de febrero. Colaborando con Arjan Miranda (Black Mountain) a la guitarra, campanas tubulares, Brent Arnold al violonchelo y al productor del álbum, Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Zola Jesus, Anna von Hausswolf, Myrkur) al sintetizador. Monica (Littleuniverses) toca el piano en “Magic”. Randall Dunn dio vida a la dicotomía oscura y etérea, poética y cinematográfica de littleuniverses, reflejando el folk oscuro y el núcleo oscuro y suave, el rock y los estilos de jazz incluidos en el álbum.
Son hermosos los paisajes donde se grabó el video ¿Cómo fue esa experiencia de grabación?¿Hubo alguna anécdota divertida de ese día?/The landscapes where the video was recorded are beautiful. How was that recording experience? Was there any funny anecdote from that day?
Littleuniverses (Spa): ¡Gracias! Las imágenes al aire libre se filmaron en High Park en Toronto. Jaiden (el director) había explorado ese lugar porque el parque tenía áreas que funcionaban bien con las imágenes de la canción. Fue una experiencia interesante filmar al aire libre en invierno porque el clima estaba muy por debajo de los 0 grados centígrados y yo bailaba con mi vestido mientras la gente en el parque vestía abrigos y gorros de invierno. Mientras filmaba, algunas personas se detuvieron para señalarnos el frío que hacía afuera. De alguna manera, nunca sentí el frío cuando filmamos, pero tan pronto como Jaiden dejaba de filmar, me congelaba. Hizo algunas experiencias interesantes.
Littleuniverses (Eng): Thanks! The outdoor footage was filmed at High Park in Toronto. Jaiden (the Director) had scouted out that location because the park had areas that worked well with the imagery in the song. It was an interesting experience filming outside in the winter because the weather was way below 0 celsius and I was dancing around in my dress while people in the park were wearing warm winter coats and hats. While filming a few people stopped to signal us about how cold it was outside. I somehow never felt the cold when we filmed but as soon as Jaiden would stop filming, I would be frozen. It made for some interesting experiences.
¿Puedes contarnos por qué decidiste llamarte “Littleuniverses”?/Can you tell us why you decide to call yourself “Littleuniverses”?
Littleuniverses (Spa): Quería tener un nombre de artista que representara mejor lo que hacía. Siempre sentí que creaba pequeños universos cuando escribía. Elegí pequeños universos porque, como cantautora, mi objetivo es crear “pequeños universos” inmersivos en los que los oyentes entran cuando experimentan mi música. Simbólicamente, mi nombre de artista se convirtió en 1 palabra en lugar de 2.
Littleuniverses (Eng):I wanted to have an artist name that best represented what I did. I always felt that I created little universes when I wrote. I chose littleuniverses because as a singer-songwriter my goal is to create immersive “little universes” that listeners enter when experiencing my music. Symbolically, my artist name became 1 word instead of 2.
¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación del sencillo?/How was the process of recording the single?
Littleuniverses (Spa): La grabación del sencillo ocurrió en dos estudios diferentes en Brooklyn NY (Strange Weather y Circular Ruin). Fue una gran experiencia porque lo que escuchaste en esta versión se grabó en vivo con instrumentos físicos ya que ambos estudios tenían todo lo necesario para dar vida a la visión de la canción. También fue una experiencia increíble contar con la participación de algunos músicos excelentes en la grabación (Arjan Miranda, Brent Arnold y Randall Dunn).
Littleuniverses (Eng):Recording the single happened in two different studios in Brooklyn NY (Strange Weather and Circular Ruin). It was a great experience because what you hear in this version was recorded live with physical instruments as both studios had everything that was needed to bring the vision of the song to life. It was also an amazing experience to be joined by some excellent musicians in the recording (Arjan Miranda, Brent Arnold and Randall Dunn).
¿Qué te acercó al mundo de la música?/What brings you closer to the world of music?
Littleuniverses (Spa): Creo que la música tiene cierta belleza mística. Se las arregla para conectar a las personas sin importar el género o el origen. Creo que siempre me he sentido conectado con la música por esa razón.
Littleuniverses (Eng): I believe that music has a certain mystical beauty. It manages to connect people regardless of gender or background. I believe I’ve always felt connected to music for that reason.
¿Cómo fue ese momento exacto en el decidiste realizar esta canción? Cuéntame un poco de ese día/What was that exact moment like when you decided to make this song? tell me a little about that day
Littleuniverses (Spa): Fue durante un viaje de campamento con mi novio en Quebec en 2021. Durante este viaje no tuvimos señal de celular ni electricidad. Uno de los días, mi novio fue a pintar paisajes y yo decidí quedarme y tocar la guitarra en nuestra tienda. Después de la primera hora de estar separados, comenzó a llover y el techo de la tienda comenzó a gotear. Hacía calor y niebla ese día en el bosque y estaba abrumado por la inspiración. La pura belleza de la naturaleza y las experiencias que tuvimos en lo profundo del frondoso bosque me inspiraron a escribir la canción. No podía oír nada, pero la lluvia y escuché dentro. Fue entonces cuando comencé a escribir los primeros versos de la canción.
Littleuniverses (Eng): It was during a camping trip with my boyfriend in Quebec in 2021. During this trip we had no cell phone signal or electricity. One of the days, my boyfriend went to landscape paint, and I decided to stay back and play guitar in our tent. After the first hour of being apart, it started to pour, and the tent roof started to leak. It was warm and misty that day in the forest and I was overwhelmed with inspiration. The sheer beauty of nature and the experiences that we had deep in the lush forest inspired me to write the song. I could hear nothing, but rain and I listened within. It was then that I started to write the first verses of the song.
Ya sea una situación, con amigos o sola ¿Cuál es su canción favorita para interpretar?/Whether it’s a situation, with friends or alone, what is your favorite song to sing?
Littleuniverses (Spa): Esta es difícil porque me encanta cantar y probar cosas vocalmente, por lo que inspira muchas ideas. Sinceramente, creo que mi canción favorita puede variar con lo que sucede en mi vida. Por ejemplo, creo que la razón por la que sostuve la nota “eres” de “Eres mágica” en el coro de Magic es porque me encanta cantar Black is the Colour of My True Love’s Hair (Nina Simone).
Además, me encanta cantar Heart or Glass (Blondie) y Shades of Cool (Lana Del Rey) si hago karaoke con amigos. Como mencioné antes, tengo algunas canciones favoritas de soul y jazz y luego, solo, disfruto de algunas canciones íntimas e introspectivas que solo canto para mí, como Angeline (PJ Harvey) y Black Car (Beach House).
Littleuniverses (Eng): This is a hard one because I love to sing and try things vocally, so it inspires a lot of ideas. I honestly think my favourite song can vary with what is happening in my life. For example, I think the reason that I held the note on “you’re” from “You’re magic” in the chorus of Magic is because I love to sing Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair (Nina Simone).
Also, I love to sing Heart or Glass (Blondie) and Shades of Cool (Lana Del Rey) if I’m doing Karaoke with friends. As mentioned before, I have a few favorite soulful and jazz songs and then by myself I enjoy a few intimate introspective songs that I just sing for me like Angeline (PJ Harvey) and Black Car (Beach House).
